Title: The Centaur was androgynous Minotaur (CPESA 1033)
Location: Angus Taylor
Artist: Angus Taylor
Sponsor: Angus Taylor & CowParade South Africa

I hope the piece to enchant to draw the viewer in. Hopefully the title will raise questions and cause some contemplation. I would like the viewer to observe and make their own opinion, create their own narrative or just enjoy it with humour.
I do have my own concept though of why I made this, but that is not the ultimate or rule to read this sculpture by. My concept;#1 the Centaur was not what we thought it was. With this I am playing with the idea that our history and therefore a large quantity of our belief system are based on wrong perception or blatant miss information.
#2 Androgynous means having only male offspring. With this I am reflecting on how our religions have become almost purely patriarchal after the entertaining
previous (Greek etc.) mythologies.

This cow was sold by Stephan Welz in association with Sotheby's auction on Wednesday 29 June 2005 at the Nedbank Head Office, 135 Rivonia Road, Sandton. Proceeds have gone to CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation to aid their plight in "Keeping more than Hope Alive". Please read the Auction press release should you want more information about the auction.
