- Kirsten Miller
Kirsten Miller is an artist and writer who lives and works in Durban. Her career has spanned many disciplines and she has lived in many different cities; it is this fragmentary aspect of her life experience from which she draws her inspiration for her art. From discarded fabric swatches to cotton rice bags, she takes bits of everyday existence to create pieces of comfort and warmth in the form of her quilts, wall hangings and art. Colour and texture and the way that these remain central to life experience are important in the construction of each piece. Through her fabric art and paintings she strives to create the sense that anyone can take the seemingly meaningless fragments of their existence and piece them together to create a whole that is comforting, symbolic and aesthetically rewarding.
